Responding to the Call

ree

'Often we only know it's time to change

When a force has built inside the heart

That leaves us uneasy as we are.'

John O'Donohue

Whatever form it may take, the Call awakens us to that which we have not yet discovered in ourselves. And when it comes, our task is a simple one. It is one of listening and attending to this inner voice rather than ignoring or denying it. It is about pledging ourselves to being faithful to the deeper longings that are surfacing within us. It is about saying 'yes' to the journey of becoming it invites us to undertake and finding the courage to take our first step on the path that is opening up before us.

Some questions to reflect on…

Reflect on your reactions to others' accounts of experiencing the Call that you have read about in this blog (c.f. my previous post entitled 'Awakening to soul: Hearing the Call) or elsewhere. In what ways did reading about their experiences impact on you?

Have you ever experienced a 'tapping in your spirit' as the Bushmen of South Africa describe it? If so, how would you describe your own experience of hearing this Call? What form or forms has it taken in your own life and when you have heard the Call, in what ways have you made sense of it and how have you responded to it?

Some creative activities to explore...

Create a collage, drawing, painting or wordmap that captures something of your own experience(s) of hearing the Call of your soul.

Alternatively write a story or a poem about one or more of your experiences of the Call. You may find that writing about your experience in the present tense will help you to reconnect with it more easily.
